ENSO

Engineering Society, one of the most popular student clubs of Bogaziçi University, follows the principle " Returning to our university what it has provided us ". ENSO was established in 1989 and has been enlarged in structure by multipurpose activities since then. As a result of the many successful activities held during its history of six years, ENSO is one of the most active and distinguished student clubs at the university. ENSO performs its academic, technological, social and cultural activities with great success through the participation and cooperation of its members. The members and executive committee consists of students from all faculties (especially the faculty of engineering) at the university.

The most important single event of ENSO is the International Cultural and Academic Meeting of Engineering Students (ICAMES). The details of ICAMES are included in the following pages.

Another ENSO activity is P&R (Presentation and Recruitment) Days. Turkish affiliates of the world's leading corporations as well as Turkish companies send representatives to the university to make presentations for the recruitment of graduating students during the P&R Days, which continue for a month. Following our first P&R Days event other student clubs at several Turkish universities began sponsor events similar to P&R Days. ENSO takes pride in this leading role among university student clubs in Turkey.

During Engineering Days, a week long event, Bogaziçi University graduates share some of their professional experiences with our students. Trips to production centers are also included to afford professional and hands-on information. Through prepared seminars, the engineering departments at the university (Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineering) address developments, from the past in to the future, directed to professional concerns.

STEPS, published each semester, is the voice of ENSO. It includes university and club news : articles about the economy, politics, technology, art, music, cinema, sports, "hot" topics, and subjects of other interest find their way into STEPS. 3000 copies of each issue are distributed free of charge.

ENSO also arranges educational and entertainment events. Computer Technology Weeks is one of these events. Developments in computer technology are presented by computer firms with demonstrations and exhibitions.

IN addition to these activities, ENSO provides support to students at international events with student exchange programs (for undergraduate and graduate students) using the communications and information base formed by ICAMES.

Fetes and parties are also organized by ENSO. In 1994, after ICAMES, our party in the Rumeli Hisar (a castle built in 1453 in the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet) was a great hit, the singular success of the academic year.

At the beginning of each semester a textbook exhibition is held. PASCAL, C and DOS lessons are arranged for interested students. Tea & Talk events provide students with invaluable interaction with people who are famous countrywide. During the Blood Donation Week, which took place for the first time last year, more than 300 volunteers contributed blood.

The highly spirited efforts of the Engineering Society membership have earned the club and outstanding reputation throughout the country, and that reputation extends beyond Turkey.
