Current Research

I am a member of the Perceptual Intelligence Laboratory (PILAB) at the Boğaziçi University, Department of Computer Engineering. I am currently working on my M.S. thesis, which is about alignment based methods to extract isolated signs from continuous signed speech videos, under the supervision of Prof. Lale Akarun.  I investigate the effects of

  1. Different feature extraction methods for hand motion and hand shape: Trajectory, Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), Hu Moments
  2. Different alignment approaches:  Dinamic Time Warping (DTW), Hidden Markov Models (HMM), Coupled HMMs, Parallel HMMs
