Form & Counter Form

One of the fundamental aspects of typographic design is the relationship between the foreground and the background. The white space (the background) makes the foreground and vice versa. Within each character this relationship becomes the play betwen the form and counterform.
Shades of Grey
The page designer at his/her disposal has a range of parameters such as the typeface, point size, letter spacing and line spacing. Using these it is possible to obtain different shades of grey on the page, with tones ranging from deep black to light grey.
