Research

As professor, Dr Desharnais research focuses mainly on measurement and conducted in association with a number of trainees. He also work with different professors on small enterprise evaluation (mini-CMM).  More than fifty small enterprises have been evaluated by my students using a questionnaire.  He is also interested in software maintenance, mainly the construction of a knowledge system on the domain in collaboration with a professor at the ÉTS. As well, I worked on ontology of software engineering and software measurement with Dr Abran.  They are all member of GELOG (equivalent of a Softlab for project TAM )

For industry, he has been conducting research in software engineering since 1989.  He began as a researcher on a $35-million project at DMR, the Macroscope (April 1989 through March 1993).  He also founded his own company in 1993: Software Engineering Laboratory in Applied Metrics (SELAM).  He was actively involved in a collaboration between UQAM and the ÉTS via the GELOG (laboratoire de génie logiciel) as an industrial researcher (see publications).  I also worked with Master’s degree students during this period.

As examples, he carried out a number of research projects funded by the Government of Canada within SELAM: Automation of FPA calculation, measurement of functional reuse, early estimation, quantitative software maintenance method, functional measure for real-time projects with FFP (this project is known as COSMIC function measure today – ISO/IEC standard 19761).
