CMPE 537 Computer Vision

Textbook: Computer Vision, Forsyth and Ponce, Prentice Hall, 2003.
Tentative Schedule:
1. Introduction, human visual system, imaging geometry, camera calibration, image formation.
2. Stereo, range, imaging devices, illumination.
3. Basic image processing operations; edge detection
4. Segmentation
5. Representation: Feature extraction
6. Object recognition
7. Motion and tracking
8. 3D
Grading: Term Project 30 %, Homeworks 30 %, Final exam 40%.
Projects: There will be a term project. The students will prepare a survey related to the term project and give a short presenatation, by the fourth week of the semester. They will propose an implementation or simulation related to the topic and carry it out untill the last week. Then, the project presentations will be done the last week of the semester.
Homeworks: Homeworks are computer implementations of simple algorithms discussed in class. There will be 4-5 homeworks, assigned every 2 weeks.
